Beacon with Morag Myerscough & 'Everybody Now'
This school holidays I have had the chance to work with the internationally acclaimed UK artist Morag Myerscough and the renowned artistic company 'Everybody Now' on the BEACON project for BLEACH festival. I spent 8 hours helping to paint the BEACON installation. I got to learn some new techniques from Morag. I learnt how to use different paints, brushes and rollers and how to carefully tape and layer as well as use a scalpel to work on curved lines.
Towards the end of the holidays the BEACON was erected at HOTA. It was so amazing to see the final product after viewing all of the plans and the work behind the scenes. It was also extra special to be a part of the Beacon choir to sing at the BEACON on opening night of the BLEACH festival. I have relished working with choral maestro Alex van den Broek and doing what I love- singing!!
The very beginning:- Back in November 2025, I did a creative workshop with Morag. This was the beginning of the BEACON. She was looking for inspiration and designs from the Gold Coast community to help formulate her structure's ultimate design. I am so proud that I have been able to be involved with this project from conception through to the opening night of BEACON.

One of the coolest parts of the BEACON experience was learning my design had been made into the cushions for the installation! My artwork is also up in an exhibition in HOTA central showcasing the designs that helped shaped the BEACON.

September 2026
On Saturday, 26th of September, I was invited to read my essay on Discrimination called 'The Weight of Words' virtually to an international audience. This opportunity came after I entered the Elaine Hobson Literary Festival writing competition with this essay. The audience were panelists and academics from around the world. Some were there in person and others were attending virtually, like me. With a nine hour time difference, it meant I was delivering my essay around midnight Australian time!
Volunteering at Creativity Lab with the Shake and Stir Theatre Company
This September school holidays I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Shake and Stir Theatre Company at their Creativity Lab at Kids Take Over at HOTA. It was fun meeting the team and helping the kids in the workshop. This was my second year volunteering at Kids Take Over.
Volunteering at BLEACH Festival with Everybody Now.....
I helped visitors to the Beacon installation enjoy their experience and learn more about the process of making it. I also promoted the Bleach festival to visitors and was in charge of the merchandise stand too.
